Review of The Nun (2018) by Bhavin D — 10 Sep 2018
A disappointing Conjuring spin-off which fails to live up to its enormous pre-release hype . The Nun fails to conjure up any frights or mere jump scares that its gloomy, dour surroundings warrant and woefully wastes Bonnie Aaron as the amazing Valak.
What the story and Valak herself were trying to achieve by terrorizing a derelict, abandoned abbey in war torn Romania is something only she knows. Adding more misery to an awful movie is the fact that the ending is rendered redundant when Valak is able to possess Maurice, passed onto Lorraine in The Conjuring and Valak regained her powers in the Conjuring 2, 20 years after the events in Romania.
Talk about a shoe-horned ending. 2 stars only for the amazing performance of portraying Valak by Bonnie Aarons.
