The Nun serves as a perfect continuity of the conjuring universe. It perfectly connect the missing pieces in previous conjuring universe movie. but as it was trying to connect the missing pieces and add a ton of references, the nun lack a soul that sustained the movie so that it can standout itself.
The Nun's strange stand out from other conjuring universe movie is it willingness to tone down the horror and start to have a fun dialogue between its characters. The story never really launch itself and ultimately fall flat and not that interesting.
But if you want to experience a few exciting jumpscare the Nun is that movie.
