Review of The Nun (2018) by Aasifuddin — 07 Sep 2018
I love all The Conjuring universe films. Heck, I didn't even mind the first Annabelle movie and thought it had some good scares. But this...this was not good. I was so excited to watch this movie because lets be real, the nun was freaky as hell.
She made me pee my pants in The Conjuring 2, but ugh...they ruined the chance to make her all that memorable. The movie was choppy, the scares were cheap, and the tense moments and playing with the light and dark that the James Wan movies had previously, just weren't there.
Although I thought the acting was solid, the characters fell victim to poor choices and unexplained decision making which made this fall into a "regular horror movie" rather than elevating itself from the standard horror flick like The Conjuring did.
"What was that noise over there? Hmmm let me investigate. Oh there is a nun now sitting on my bed whispering prayers with an upside down cross above her. Let me go touch her shoulder and see how she is doing.
" "Oh look someone just walked down into an empty cellar in the middle of the night...let me go follow them and ask how they are doing by myself with a candle." Unless you work for Ghost Hunters, NO one does that.
