Review of The Nun (2018) by Compi24 — 11 Sep 2018
Five movies deep into the "Conjuring" universe and I still haven't a clue of what to expect. You rope us in with "The Conjuring," push us away with the "Annabelle" spinoff, rope me in again with "The Conjuring 2," convince me that good "Conjuring" spinoffs are at least possible with the halfway decent "Annabelle: Creation," and then confuse the hell out of me with this.
Now, don't get me wrong, "The Nun" is nowhere near the worst horror movie I've ever seen. In fact, I wouldn't even go so far as to say that it's among the worst. It's just so painfully mediocre and bland.
Jump scare here. Jump scare there. Wasted performance here. Lazy plot element there. It just feels so by the numbers and basic. I only wish that the film's magnificently designed sets informed upon anything in a story respect.
Guess not.
