As a big fan of horror both in books and on the big screen I was disappointed with 'The Nun'. Now it wasn't all bad, there were some truly great horror sequences in this; but that is my main gripe. It felt to me as if it was just a bunch of horror sequences jumbled together with all of them finishing up with a loud bang coupled with some form of entity, be it hands protruding from doors or corpses gaining life once more to stab a bloke in the leg with a crucifix, jumping out at you with the aim of trying to scare you.
Fantastic visuals and a genuinely creepy atmosphere are all lost to a movie that made a feeble attempt in its opening sequences to build tension. Relying on your past memories of how harrowing Valak was throughout The Conjuring 2, this movie flops very quickly when you realise the same scares are used again (Shadows moving across walls, seeing Valak in mirrors etc.) leading to this whole experience feeling like a money making exercise by its producers.
If you want a cliché horror go crazy it'll be right up your street, however if you're after something more than a few predictable jump scares and bland dialogue don't waste your money.
