Review of The Number 23 (2007) by Bradford D — 01 Apr 2011
I rounded up to 3 stars because I did not dislike this enough to give it a 2 (Oh my stars! There's another "23"-2 stars and 3 stars). This movie is full of silly little observations such as that one, and let me tell you, they become tiresome very quickly.
The other factor that detracts from the story is that everything feels forced. The story is not just left free to unfold naturally. Every scene, every shot, every act is conspicuously planned. You are left with a feeling during the movie that you are watching a movie because you can see all of the strings of the proverbial marionettes.
Those two complaints aside, I loved the visuals. The colors and styling were outstanding. I also think that there's a nifty little mystery in here just dying to get out. All in all, it's still better than a rerun of Law & Order or Everybody Loves Raymond.
