Review of The Number 23 (2007) by Daniel P — 28 Feb 2013
This movie was made because people were convinced that having a film obsessed with the numerology of the 23 was interesting enough on its own and didn't need the life-blood of a good plot, interesting characters or any kind of cinematic substance to support it.
Yes, it's somewhat interesting to examine the multiplicity of ways a particular number can be bent and manipulated to suggest some kind of cryptic meaning to it, but that is simply not enough for 90 minutes of entertainment.
This film lacked energy, pacing, suspense, coherence, feasibility at every turn. While I believe Jim Carrey did a respectable job trying to pull off a strong performance, his effort actually looks a little sad amidst the wreckage of this misguided film.
