Review of The Notorious Bettie Page (2006) by Pamela K — 30 Apr 2007
Good film, but a bad representation of Bettie. Gretchen Mol did a great job with the facial expressions, but she played Bettie far too innocently. It's an affront to Bettie to represent her as nothing but a naive country girl unaware of the sexuality she was exhuding. If you've ever watched a Bettie Page film you know what I mean. She was pure sex, and she knew it. She wasn't posing because she thought it was fun, she definitely knew what men were thinking when they looked at her.
There is nothing wrong with fetishism, but they poorly represented it. It is still a form of sexuality, and I think the film tried to distance itself a little too much from that.
