Review of The Notorious Bettie Page (2006) by Bob L — 18 Mar 2009
Good effort at recreating the hooha of the U.S. 'witch hunts' of the 50's. Fairly accurate, shallow biog of Page but only half the story. Cutting it off where they do makes her story seem dull and derivative- early abuse + god fearing = porn star who'll regret it all and turn back to Jesus yadayada.
The real story would have been about her subsequent disappearances and obliviousness to her fame. This movie seems to want to focus on the 'shock' to the 1950's from Bettys world by concentrating on the raunchy Irving Claw years rather than the more acceptable Bunny Yaeger shoots and avoiding going into Betties character with any depth.
Good eye candy. A so-so film, but don't expect to be drawn in too deep.
