Review of The Notebook (2004) by Jacob M — 20 Feb 2014
When you think of Nicholas Sparks, you think of stupid, cliched, overly dramatic stories about the same thing just with different faces to remember it by. While most of the books he writes are like that and the movies that come from those, this one is an exception of the rule.
No, it is cliched but this one is far from stupid and actually, very touching. It holds your attention throughout the majority of the film and the acting is pretty good. Now, I'm not saying that this movie is amazing, because it's not, far from it actually.
But it is a sweet (tear jerk-er) that does in fact dig deep with it's emotional resonance and pretty good plot line. Except for the two old people. I hated them. They were so annoying and don't give much to the story besides a little more drama that actually isn't needed.
I would have been fine without those two but all in all, The Notebook is an above average film for what it is.
