Review of The Norseman (1978) by Allan C — 11 Nov 2016
Hilariously awful viking film starting the Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Majors, as a viking leader who leads an intrepid crew of norsemen on a quest to the Americas to find his missing father who's been captured by Native Americans.
The title card reads, "This motion picture is based on fact. As early as the year 793 A.D. a lusty horde of blond giants came out of the icy mountains of Norway to boldly sail the seas in longships.
They were called Nosremen." That pretty much sets the stage for how bad this film would be. This debacle was directed by Charles B. Pierce who had some genuine cult classics under his belt, like "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" and "The Legend of Boggy Creek," but his low rent style of filmmaking is not at all suited to a costume adventure film.
The movie just looks ridiculous, featuring wildly un-Norse of actors (including football player Deacon Jones) and I'm pretty sure not one genuine native actor played any of the Native American tribe members.
One star for ironic enjoyment.
