Wow!
Really. Wow!
Critics are supposed to aid the potential audience in making choices on which films to see. The good and the bad.
I wondered why Mark Ruffalo chose to do an 80's play about the onset of HIV in the gay community. He could have made a fortune making HULK movies.
The answer is the film itself. Everything is perfect. No flaws. Even set in the 80's, there is no "American Hustle" clothes in excess here. The lighting is the best I've ever seen. Sets, editing, score, acting...all exceptional! An American "Normal Heart" that doesn't shy from the subject matter. Julia Roberts even looks and acts appropriately rough!
Russians at the MXAT always said Americans were incapable of Ensemble Acting. Every actor in this film plays it just right, listens and acts WITH. Even the cinematography is breathtaking.
Not nostalgic, but a beautifully made piece of real art that frightens and moves lightning fast. A++++++++++++++.
Got a lot of respect for Mark Ruffalo for choosing such a risky piece and succeeding so eloquently.
