Review of The Normal Heart (2014) by Andy N — 16 Jun 2014
This film goes directly for your heart strings and never once lets up. From the early days when no one knew anything about the disease, to a year when men and women were fighting for it to end, The Normal Heart is the story of a group of men who attempt to raise awareness and money for the research and the development of a cure for aids.
The performances are all amazing. Ruffalo leaves nothing behind and every monologue from him is just brilliantly spoken or in most cases yelled. Bomer once again proves that he deserves every film he's and Taylor Kitsch proves that he's more than just a summer blockbuster type of guy.
This film is littered with so many excellent performances from several amazing actors. And lets not forget Julia Roberts who is just amazing as the lead researcher on aids at the time. Ryan Murphy is a very polarizing person and his attempts at multi sexual/racial/gendered films and television shows can be very hit or miss, but his direction here is just phenomenal.
There is no denying the man has talent. If you're in the mood for an excellent film, or just feel like crying, or you just want to know more about this time period and problem, then watch The Normal Heart.
