Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Anthony B — 27 Sep 2009
Polanski's gothic thriller "The Ninth Gate" has been hailed as a misunderstood masterpiece by some, for what reason? who knows! This tale of the occult is a complete farce which I found very hard to take serious with the comedic moments far outweighing the element of suspense.
The one saving grace of the movie is Depp's performance as book dealer Dean Corso, less can be said about Polanski's spouse Emmanuelle Seigner who I am convinced is the worst actress of her generation!
