Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Nathan F — 26 Aug 2009
People approached this film wanting to see gore and demons and johnny depp doing one of his stupid tim-burton roles. a movie about atmosphere, satan, and the mystique of antique bibliophilia was on nobody's mind.
I believe the film is beautiful as it is; mythical, picaresque, and in the style of that old gothic realism that Polanski hands out like free-stir-fry.
