Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Joseph C — 12 Jan 2012
The Ninth Gate is completely outrageous and sometimes very dark. The film has some good ideas but often loses sight of what it is trying to accomplish. Polanski is a great filmmaker that can transport you to places you didnt even know you wanted to go but with The Ninth Gate he takes us there and can't keep all of the us from leaving.
Saying I dislike the movie would be a stretch because there are moments that are truely great that pulled me in. Overall Polanski gets the job done, just very slowely.
