Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Eli S — 08 Apr 2012
A straightforward thriller that keeps the right type of viewer interested; this is not intended for a wide audience. I had no knowledge of the film prior to viewing it, except for the vague remembrance of average reviews. Simply put, I enjoyed this movie. That is it. I felt no sympathy or connection with characters, and took nothing from the movie (due to the fact that there wasn't a trace of a message that Polanski was attempting to purvey ). I had this impending feeling that the movie would end with the MOST unoriginal and stupid and sloppy 'the main actor is in fact crazy' twist, but was pleasantly surprised!
7/10.
