There are interesting ideas at work here; They just happen to be the focus of a thoroughly lifeless thriller. Depp seems to know this as he doesn't commit himself to this role as he has others. Regardless, the movie is still oddly entertaining. It's fun to try and figure out which of the characters is supposed represent Satan. Hooray, Imdb discussion boards!
