Review of The Ninth Gate (1999) by Daniel E. M — 09 Dec 2010
This is truely a lesser Johnny Depp, and Roman Polanski film. I will admit that it pulled me in not long after it began, but the more the story progressed the less I cared about what was to happen next.
It has some good acting, some nice sets, but the bizarre elements, and the suspense scenes leave more to be desired. The film takes us on a long, should be, interesting journey, and leads us to a dead end.
What it comes down to is a mildly amusing 133 minute waste of one's time. It also seemed like Polanski's newest film "Ghost Writers" borrowed some of the same houses that were seen in this film.
I wasn't a fan of that one either, but atleast I kinda liked it as an end result. I also predicted a few things long before they happened, and was almost ready to shut it off because it was taking itself forever to conclude.
