Review of The Nines (2007) by Tim B — 03 Feb 2009
Too many film genres crammed into one. At first I felt like this film was going to be a thriller of some sort, with all the destruction and havoc Ryan Reynold's first character wreaked upon himself and then began hallucinating and imagining weird things (mouse traps, sounds over baby monitor, the mute girl at the bus stop).
..but then it turned into angry saga battle, then to tricky and treachery. It really downplayed his supposedly dynamic connection with the world by having three stories converge into one main plot/concept - it was as if it was trying to be Magnolia or Crash, but all with the same ultimate person behind everything.
Didn't love it, but will say it is refreshing.
