Review of The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974) by John A — 17 Nov 2007
Now I realize this wasn't made with the cooperation of either creator Robert Crumb or director of the original Ralph Bakshi, but I have to admit that there was alot to like about this under-rated sequel.
The genre of mid-seventies american adult animation is a narrow one, but I think this easilly takes it's place alongside some of Bakshi's films, even out-doing some of them. Before you dismiss it as the un-wanted step-child of the original, check out the funk, the fun, the attitude, and the political incorrectness of a bygone era.
They don't make cartoons for big kids like this anymore, and now is the perfect time to bring them back.
