Review of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) by Eytan D — 22 May 2013
The subject matter is a little too intense for younger children, but Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is an absolute treat. Having applied stop-motion animation, the worlds of Halloweentown and Christmastown are captured beautifully and imaginatively.
The characters are some of the most creative people Burton has ever come up with. The voice work is exceptional, especially that of Chris Sarandon and Catherine O'Hara as Jack Skellington and Sally the Rag Doll.
The movie is filled with ghoulish delight, a wicked sense of humor, and just the right touch of sadness. And thanks to Danny Elfman's fantastic score, the movie is enhanced immensely. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" should be kept away from tiny children, but the older ones and their parents will eat it up.
What a great movie.
