Review of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) by Jason M — 29 Oct 2016
This is a modern classic children's musical film in its most unlikely form. This is the film that truly launched Tim Burton's career and deservedly so. Danny Elfman's soundtrack and singing are a masterpiece of the musical genre.
Starkingly original. Every scene and song is so well choreographed and tied together in this musical that it can be watched many times over and always enjoyed by both children and adults alike. It has a similar broad appeal as "Up" and "The Lion King".
I am surprised and glad that Hollywood has not bastardized this classic into a sequel. It is one of the greatest Hallowe'en and Christmas children's films of all time. How many other classic childrens' films can be credited in these dual categories?
