Review of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) by Sara S — 27 Oct 2015
I've never been the type to judge a movie. I wouldn't say A Nightmare on Christmas, by Tim Burton, is the worst movie, but I also wouldn't say it's the greatest. This movie has been nominated for Best effects and best original score. I think this was an alright movie. It's not one I would just watch like you would most movies but it's not one I would never watch. A Nightmare before Christmas is a good movie if you're into animations and singing.
A Nightmare on Christmas takes place in Halloween and Christmas town. The main character are Jack Skellington and Sally. Jack is the pumpkin king of Halloween town. Sally is a rag doll who as trouble fitting in. Jack is all about Halloween until he discovers Christmas. Jack is trying to find the real meaning of Christmas. He feels he's missing out on something in life and wonders why he feels so empty inside. Sally is a girl who falls in love with Jack but is to shy to let him know. She knows Jack's idea of helping Santa was bad. Jack soon realizes he may have already ruined it.
The themes of understanding the holidays made this movie interesting to me. The whole Christmas concept was a bad idea overall because he tried to incorporate Halloween in it. Jack tried to explain Christmas in his way and what he understood of it but it was horrible. Jack only knew Halloween and the scary things that came with it. He didn't understand it was the opposite of Halloween and it wasn't just all about giving. Jack as he thought was just helping Santa when he went and put the toys in the homes not knowing that when he went inside the houses he was still implying Halloween.
I found it awkward how Sally was the only one who really knew about Christmas. I found it awkward because even though she was always locked away with her creator she was still able to get an understanding about what was going on out side of his lab. I also found it awkward how she saw the thing disaster happening before it did and tried to warn Jack about. What I did like though was that even though Sally was a shy girl she still tried to help Jack out. I also like how Sally's character breaks out her shyness and tries to liberate Santa. After she heard that the army was coming to stop jack she tried hard. Later when Jack realizes what he has done. I don't really like how the movie ended.
As I stated before I'm not the judgmental type. I wouldn't say don't watch it but if you have time and is looking for a kid movie to watch this might be the one for you. Besides the singing and twist between the endings it's over all not a bad movie. So I would say I recommend this movie this movie to be watched with kids. I feel it should be more school related though because it's a great way to understand a movie and it's fun to watch.
