Review of The Night of the Iguana (1964) by Chiek E — 05 Sep 2012
Another genius piece from Tennessee Williams brilliantly played by the tour de force cast of the very intense Richard Burton playing a inebriated defrocked pastor , whose every enunciated English word is music to my ears, the feisty Ava Gardner playing an earthy flamboyant hotel owner with a big heart and willing to give up her love to another woman and finally the compassionate Deborah Kerr playing a penniless spinster getting by with her sketching, cooking but standing tall sharing her non judgmental heart with Richard Burton and showing him with great self confidence that her path of spinsterhood is honorable and nothing to be afraid and never a reason for self pity.
Between two wonderful women, Richard chose to remain with Ava in the end even though Ava had selflessly proposed a plan for Richard and Deborah to be together. Beautiful ending.
