Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Erik O — 27 Jun 2008
Robert Mitchum has always been a great actor, I don't think there's ever been any doubt about that. But the syrupy-sweet malice that he brings to the role of the evil Preacher is simply amazing.
As for the rest of the movie, the night scenes are very creepy, and the forest-setting increases the film's feeling of dread and suspense. The story really makes you feel for the kids, especially in light of knowing what type of villain they're up against.
It's a true classic in every sense of the word.
