Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Denise C — 09 Jul 2008
This is the only film actor Charles Laughton was credited as its director, but what a jewel it is. This suspenseful thriller is pretty daring considering this is 1955. A wandering preacher as a brutal killer who wants to kill two kids for money. Robert Mitchum just nails this part and makes a believable menacing and charming villain.
There is suspense, excellent cinematography, and a great script re-written by Laughton himself.
Check it out.
