Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Milton B — 16 Aug 2008
It's too bad Charles Laughton only directed one move because based on this film he probably would have made many more great films. This children's fable/nightmare is so beautifully shot that just about each frame is a work of art.
The art direction combines the artificial with the real and it is all presented like a fairy tale. Lillian Gish is incredible as the savior although we really don't know where she comes from. Robert Mitchum as the Preacher is a living example of evil and Shelly Winters as an innocent follower.
Describing this movie does it no good. Just watch it.
