Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Private U — 12 Sep 2008
Probably the best cinematography I've ever seen in a black and white film. The scenes of rivers and fields are stunning. The film is a mixture of noir and German expressionism, creating a kinda of other-worldly experience where nothing seems quite normal.
I mean, not a single character in the whole film has half a brain. They do the stupidest actions and give the most over-the-top expressions. Accept that all that was intentional, and it is a very suspenseful and enjoyable film.
If not, you'll hate it.
