Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Eric G — 13 Jul 2009
Pure and simple, the most remarkable movie ever made. The performances are pitch perfect, especially from the menacing Robert Mitchum. The symbolism never quite beats you over the head, and serves to elevate the story from being just a terrifying thriller.
It tests your values, and like every other great film makes you wonder with whom you should sympathize. I am still riveted long after watching.
