Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Jerrod G — 29 Sep 2009
Robert Mitchum is fantastic in this role as a false-prophet posing as a preacher-man. Cinematically, Charles Laughton uses a lot of interesting angles to tell this story about a search for $10,000, which really ends up being a story about childhood: the innocence, the exciting secrets, and the loyalty.
While the plot seems to get a little lost (it's based on a novel, so I'm assuming a lot got cut out for the purpose of making it into a film), the flow of the film kept me interested. Easily, a good old film worth seeing.
However, you may never be able to hear the old hymn "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" the same way after seeing this movie.
