Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Mark Q — 24 Mar 2011
With its gothic, silent-era feel, magnificently shocking lead performance & superb direction, this is one of the greatest thrillers ever made. Mitchum's Harry Powell is one of the screen's great villains, while the child actors bring us the kind of innocence that makes him all the more terrifying.
Unappreciated in its own time, this is now a classic in almost every sense of the word - particularly in its technical accomplishments!!!
