Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Chris H — 13 Jul 2011
I kind of see why it's loved, but it doesn't have the quality to count it among the best films ever made for me (which it is). Mitchum's self-labelled Preacher is a nasty bastard. The plot is interesting enough, just far from great.
It's too heavy handed and uneventful. The endding is very anti-climactic. "It's a hard world for little things" wasn't a bad line, and the whole thing about children being stronger than adults because they abide through any kind of bad times was interesting.
Just don't tell your cell mate you have a bunch of money stashed at home, even if you're about to be hanged.
