Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Ricky H — 27 Jul 2012
Mitchum is disturbing in the role of a psychotic pastor. He is attempting to kill a woman and her kids for money and goes about it in sinister ways. He threatens the kids in public and in front of people and says that he acts on the words he hears from God.
He is delusional and kills more than once with no repercussions. The acting is great for the period and the score is dramatic in a way that makes you cringe. It is a must-watch if you like thrillers and suspense, and if you like movies from this era.
If not, then you will be missing out on one of the better movies from the 1950's. Mitchum is haunting and memorable. The child actors will make you feel their pain and fear. Not to be missed if you have not already seen it.
Absolutely appalled at the one negative review.
