Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Patrick M — 18 Oct 2012
An expressionist horror masterpiece that is genuinely frightening. There were times where I had tears in my eyes from all of the darkly beautiful imagery (as well as the films use of music). It's a bit offbeat, and the studio placed their focus on Mitchum's 'Not as a Stranger', so it was a failure with both critics and audiences.
But trust me when I say that you will not forget this film. It's a shame that we never got another film solely directed by Charles Laughton.
