Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Daryl K — 03 Nov 2012
Charles Laughton made 'The Night of the Hunter' with an almost Wellesian hand -- as a piece of pure filmmaking, it's impeccable. The only minor detractions, to my mind, are some of the story turns and contrivances, and these are likely a matter of personal taste.
Robert Mitchum is chilling as the phony preacher who unrelentingly pursues two small children on the trail of stolen loot. Pity that Laughton never directed another film.
