Review of The Night of the Hunter (1955) by Keenan S — 04 Mar 2013
The Night Of The Hunter is a superb slow-burn thriller about an evil man proclaiming himself to be a man of God who murders women he manipulates and terrorizes two children about the location of $10,000 their father stole and hid.
It might be a slow builder, but it is an intense ride that is still very scary even though this film is nearly sixty years old. Robert Mitchum's performance is chilling and gripping, though the rest of the cast is also great, especially the two lead child actors.
The film is intense, scary, beautiful, haunting, surprisingly funny when it wants to be, and very entertaining. If you love a good thriller, you gotta see this one.
