Review of The Night Listener (2006) by Warren C — 24 Aug 2009
The initial premise of one child abuse victim working out his problems by befriending another had me reaching for the remote but, as the film wore on, it presented an interesting and thought-provoking treatise on Munchhausen's and its effects on the publishing industry (honest!) of which Williams' emotional wimp is a part of (Williams plays a DJ of sorts but don't expect Good Morning Vietnam).
Toni Collette proves once again why she is considered one of the finest character actresses working in film while a capable supporting cast depict a believable liberal support group. Some nice moments but the whole thing could have been improved by the removal of the limp, emo soundtrack.
