Review of The Night Before (2015) by Tyler R — 13 Jul 2016
The Night Before won't go down as a holiday classic anytime soon, but it is certainly enjoyable while it lasts. The film brings three friends together who go out for one last Christmas Eve night of fun before they all agree to take on the world as adults.
Now, there isn't much about the film that is original, as it borrows heavily from many classics before it, but the humanity that the three leads bring to their goofy characters is the main draw here.
The charisma and chemistry that Rogen, Levitt, and Mackie share is apparent right off the bat, and it helps make their struggles relatable. The rest of the cast is padded out with fodder and cameos galore, but it all comes back to the main three, and it works.
The pacing isn't terrible, but there are times when a running joke lasts a little too long and throws off the kinetic feel of it all. Overall, The Night Before won't go down as a classic, but it is definitely a buddy comedy worth watching.
