Review of The Night Before (2015) by Calvin C — 28 Nov 2015
As Christmas movies go, this is one of the funnier ones. As Seth Rogan comedies go, this is one of his more enjoyable ones. Directed by Jonathan Levine, who directed Gordon-Levitt and Rogan in 50/50, Levine is once again able to mix in the funny, absurd and the weed with the sweet and heartfelt. The movie is a modern day, stoner's take on A Christmas Carol and the situations the three friends go through is hilarious. Michael Shannon is a scene-stealer as a drug dealer with a heart of goal. The movie is about friendship and letting go of the past. I found the movie to be more sentimental that I thought it would be. The characters are likable and it is just a fun holiday movie for the older kids.
Grade: A-.
