Review of The Night Before (2015) by Luke D — 21 May 2016
The 50/50 team returns with a couple of new recruits in Michael Shannon and Anthony Mackie, focusing on 3 friends who decide to go out for one last Christmas Eve night of debauchery before retiring their tradition, which in itself was to distract Joseph Gordon Levitt from the loss of his parents a decade before, before cutting the safety net to focus on their careers, wives and getting back together with JGL's ex potentially, with the peace de resistance being the Nutcracker Ball party to end all parties if they can only find it.
Equal parts the Stoners version of Go meets Scrooged, the Night Before defintely has some great chuckles if the boys do play to type, seeing Shannon in a comedy playing a weed dealer provides some genuine chuckles, and also proves that I am totally over Franco, overall just a fun film for the holidays and better than most entries from the Stoner pack.
