Review of The Nick of Time (1939) by O B — 23 Jan 2011
Saw this one yesterday and It would have had more potential if the plot was developed more. It seems that most of the problems with this movie for me stem from how when Mr. Watson is just about to get help all of a sudden some absolutely RIDICULOUS occurrence happens that stops him, OK, that is fine and dandy for maybe the first time or so, but the walkie-talkie incident and the odd dream like sequence in the middle was...just..wow, just, ridiculous there are many unexplained actions and the people in this movie are absolutely stupid! I also did not like how most of the people who weren't white was baddies in the movie or just a freaking shoe shiner(Charles S. Dutton).Acting wise, Johnny Depp did an alright job. This was certainly not his best but he captured the fear of the character pretty alright. Christopher Walken overacted this role completely but I'll pass him just because he's a great actor, funny and I like him. Roma Maffia was alright she was a bit annoying but she got the job done. The little girl was a bit too movie-like and came off as a soulless android. So the choice of actors/actresses in here wasn't bad it's just they were in a horribly written story line. The soundtrack is blah as well.
Acidic_society's wrap up:
Pros: filmed in real time, nice cast choice.
Cons :terribly written and executed plot, lame soundtrack, action scenes not as intense as I expected, minor characters in film are all way too stupid and their acting is unforgivable.
2 replaced walkie talkies out of the other 5 Walken magically gets.
Sorry for the downer y'all.
