Review of The Nice Guys (2016) by Patricia W — 16 Sep 2017
The nice guys is buddy comedy set in the 70s where two very detectives join up to investigate the suspicious death of porn star and end up stumbling into something much bigger. Ryan Gosling as Holland March and Russell Crowe as Jackson Healy have excellent chemistry together and have some funny scenes together.
However this really should be described as a trio because Holland's daughter Holly, played by Angourie Rice has a huge part to play in their investigation and is also very entertaining. The pacing is pretty good and there are consistent laughs throughout but there are a few downsides.
The villains are quite weak and unmemorable and because there are so many of them when one of them dies it carries no weight with it. There is also a scene at a party that, although it has some very funny moments, also has a child watching porn with adults, which was played for laughs but the joke didn't land and it came across as a bit creepy.
Despite that it's still a good popcorn flick that you can enjoy with your friends and have a few laughs.
