Review of The Next Three Days (2010) by Heather M — 23 Jun 2011
Paul Haggis has written & directed an extremely intriguing prison break film with The Next Three Days. The film eschews all traditional genre pot holes to create a truly tense, edge-of-your-seat experience.
I was so impressed with the overall detail of the picture and the time Haggis took to show Crowe's process. Normally the reconnaissance phase in these movies is done through a three minute montage.
Here, Haggis takes over 90 minutes to walk us through Crowe's gathering of information, trial, errors and forced changes before we even get to the implementation stage. My only real criticism is with the casting of Elizabeth Banks.
Her performance is fantastic, but I think she's too young & too pretty to be a believable wife to Crowe's older, fatter school teacher. Not sure where the criticism is coming from on this film.
