The franchise has lost momentum. Mr Miyagi's strange ability to encounter crazy men who need beating up looks a little strained. Indeed the fight scenes seem oddly out of place. The value of the movie is in the character development, particularly that of Hilary Swank showing the form that was to fully blossom later.
