Review of The New World (2005) by Kaitlyn G — 07 Jul 2009
The best film for the period 2000-2009. This movie is a masterpiece. Many will not like it. It is very slow in manner compared to conventional movies and is without a lot of dialog However it is breath taking in its cinematography and art and set direction.
I often compare Mel Gibson's movie and this one both seeing different parts of the new world. Rather than a story of James Town in the New World its actually the story of Pocahontas and a love story at that.
It is really very sad that the two cultures could not survive and that the English (and Americans) destroyed their entire culture eventually. Be Sure and read the review from the Boston Globe. The new world Indians worshiped the sun and nature and Malick presents the unspoiled nature of that land in full glory.
I watched on my 65 inch TV and can only imagine how breath taking this film must have been on the big screen. Highest Rating 5 Stars But your average viewer could care less about this movie.
