Review of The New World (2005) by Tuukka P — 06 Sep 2009
Malicks take on the Pocahontas story. Again we are treated with beautiful shots of nature and sparse dialogue (using instead lots of voice-overs) but comparing this to his Thin Red Line (which I really liked) something is missing.
There are no chemistry between Farrell and Klicher (who is the stand-out as the Native American Princess) and the pace is sooo slow you'll start looking at your watch. Visually beautiful movie with almost poetic storytelling but this just didn't do it for me.
