Review of The New World (2005) by Roman P — 31 Dec 2009
Although the pacing is uneven, this is one of the most beautiful looking films to be released in the last ten years. Terrence Malick isn't interested in plotting. Continuing the stylistic tradition of "Days of Heaven" and "The Thin Red Line," "The New World" feels akin to stream of consciousness writing, as reflected in the occasional voiceover monologues delivered by multiple characters.
There have been many auteurs in the history of cinema, but Malick is one of the few poets.
