Review of The New World (2005) by Dimitris I — 23 Nov 2010
Nothing strikes fear in my heart more than the words, "historical romantic drama." But this example from the very unprolific Malick was a pleasant surprise. The fluid, almost dream-like quality of the cinematography makes the cross-cultural love story even more poignant and beautiful.
Farrell is actually bearable to watch in full Colonial douchebag mode, and newcomer Kilcher brings a freshness and authentic innocence to a very heavy role with not much dialogue to work with.
