Review of The New World (2005) by Naoya K — 03 Mar 2011
Watched Extended Cut. In terms of style, I think Malick has finally completed his own. Free-style editing which is not bound to so-called rules but does depend more on characters' emotions, clever orchestration of images, narrations, scores, and really well-crafted soundscapes (with gorgeous SFXs of the nature).
It's also clever that the title has dual-meaning, which are America (and the culture of native Americans) for English people and Europe for the native Americans (mainly Pocahontas). Although the latter is really daringly and delicately described, I'd say it could be even better if it could contain Cpt.
Smith's point of view of the New World more, not only Pocahontas'.
